Prevalence, Mortality, and Access to Care for Chronic Kidney Disease in Medicaid-Enrolled Adults With Sickle Cell Disease in California: Retrospective Cohort Study

Prevalence, Mortality, and Access to Care for Chronic Kidney Disease in Medicaid-Enrolled Adults With Sickle Cell Disease in California: Retrospective Cohort Study

Access to specialized care was limited, with a significant proportion of individuals having no encounters with hematologists or nephrologists. We identified 2345 adults (aged >18 years) during 10 years within the SCDC cohort. Of these, 572 fulfilled case definitions for CKD, with an estimated CKD prevalence of 24.4% (572/2345). Prior studies show a high prevalence of CKD in the population with SCD, and our study confirms these findings.
