Social Media Use and Oral Health–Related Misconceptions in Saudi Arabia: Cross-Sectional Study

To effectively reach a broad and diverse sample, we launched advertisement campaigns across Instagram, X (Twitter), Snapchat, and Tik Tok. User interactions were monitored throughout the campaigns to evaluate reach and sample representativeness. Snapchat and Tik Tok provided us with strategic support to optimize campaign strategies.

The Tik Tok platform was screened in November 2022 for the following keywords: dermatology, derm, skin, skin care, aesthetician, dermatologist, esthetician, derm physician assistant, dermatology physician assistant, derm PA, dermatology nurse, derm nurse, and derm nurse practitioner.

As of March 2023, Tik Tok boasts over 35,000 verified health care providers, contributing 21,000 new entries daily, with health-related posts amassing more than 200 million views daily.

As such, health care–related Tik Tok videos have a very wide reach and high rates of interactions [4].
