By late February 2021, the Pfizer-Bio NTech (Pfizer), Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson (J&J/Janssen) vaccines were all approved for emergency use authorization. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccination drives started much earlier, in late December (Figures S2 and S3 in Multimedia Appendix 1), as compared to that of the Janssen vaccines, which also saw a stall in vaccine rates in mid-April (Figure S4 in Multimedia Appendix 1).

Marcec and Likic [13] applied lexicon-based sentiment analysis to English tweets mentioning Astra Zeneca, Pfizer, and Moderna and found that the sentiment for Pfizer and Moderna was generally more positive than that for Astra Zeneca. Sattar and Arifuzzaman [14] analyzed tweets related to public sentiment about COVID-19 vaccination awareness and found strong positive sentiments despite the side effects of the vaccine.

COVID-19 Vaccine Perception in South Korea: Web Crawling Approach

Since early 2021, 2 types of COVID-19 vaccines, Astra Zeneca (AZ) and Pfizer, have been produced in Korea. As of May 10, 2021, 4,181,003 people have been vaccinated—2,014,788 with AZ and 2,166,215 with Pfizer. The vaccine refusal rate in Korea was 33%, and these individuals refused to be vaccinated despite being eligible for COVID-19 vaccination.
