Use of Sentinel Surveillance Platforms for Monitoring SARS-CoV-2 Activity: Evidence From Analysis of Kenya Influenza Sentinel Surveillance Data

Trained surveillance officers (either a nurse or a clinical officer) identified and enrolled patients who met the severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) or influenza-like illness (ILI) case definitions [24]. We defined a SARI case as an acute onset of respiratory illness (within the last 10 days) with fever (reported or measured fever of ≥38 °C) and cough, requiring hospitalization.
