Use of Sentinel Surveillance Platforms for Monitoring SARS-CoV-2 Activity: Evidence From Analysis of Kenya Influenza Sentinel Surveillance Data

Detection of both viruses continued throughout the evaluation period, with influenza positivity remaining higher than SARS-Co V-2 positivity from mid-May 2021 through late December 2021. The highest influenza positivity was 21.4% (71/333) in August 2021 when SARS-Co V-2 positivity was 17.2% (57/333). The highest peak of SARS-Co V-2 positivity was in March 2021 at 25.1% (109/434) when influenza positivity was 9.4% (41/434; Figure 2).
