This study aims to outline the design, implementation, and deployment of a modular data transformation pipeline that transforms oncological RWD into an HL7 FHIR format and then into a tabular format in preparation for a federated analysis (FA) across the 6 BZKF university hospitals.

The creation of a trauma-informed codevelopment space was crucial to facilitate safer and more open discussions. To accomplish this, we established a parallel, intervention refinement process using a helical structure developed by this team and based on our prior research with structural indicators for community-based participatory action research [33]. As shown in Figure 2, the “hand off” of work drives an iterative (helical) thinking process.

The index visit was defined as the first order of a culprit medication for a given patient on a given hospitalization (encounter), with only one medication used to define each hospitalization for each patient. As such, a given individual patient could be included more than once, although each encounter (hospitalization) was only used once for each patient under a given culprit medication. The earliest date of enrollment was July 6, 2011, and the latest was April 16, 2024.

The International Organization for Standardization describes usability as “the extent to which a system, product or service can be used by specified users to achieve specified goals with effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction in a specified context of use” [1]. Usability testing is a method in which a product is evaluated by users as they perform tasks, and may include formative or summative testing [2].

To enhance recruitment, a home testing option is provided, allowing families to conveniently perform finger-prick testing and data collection at home.
After screening results are available, a research physician reviews the findings. Participants who test positive for islet autoantibodies are invited to a follow-up visit that includes personalized counseling, targeted educational interventions, and additional metabolic staging to determine their T1 D stage.

Conditional inference trees model the nonlinear relationships between a wide range of predictors and an outcome. As a data mining approach, the conditional inference tree is a data-driven analytic strategy that identifies interacting social determinants from many candidate predictors to determine which predictors are most relevant to specific outcomes.

For example, medical students completing an online module on a basic science topic may be confident in their ability to learn but struggle to see the value in the material beyond their next examination. Conversely, students completing a virtual examination with a standardized patient may see the value in what they are learning but not feel confident in their ability to succeed.

The aim of this study is to develop risk calculators that best predict (1) a mother’s risk of having a neonate with abnormal fetal growth (large for gestational age [LGA] or small for gestational age [SGA]); (2) a mother’s risk of having a serious adverse neonatal outcome; and (3) a mother’s risk of developing new metabolic disease after pregnancy (Figure 1).

Our team conducted a formative study to gain a detailed understanding of US students’ preferences for interventions and their patterns of smartphone use [28]. Based on our findings and through conducting iterative user-centered design testing, our team developed bhoos (see below for a detailed description of the app and its functions). Similar to other app interventions, bhoos provides on-demand psychoeducational content about safer alcohol use.

Risk communication is a fundamental component of risk analysis that involves the exchange of information about risk and risk-related factors using a range of appropriate tools and strategies [1]. Effective risk communication is instrumental in promoting awareness [2], increasing behavior uptake [3], and mitigating adverse health events [4,5]. Food safety risk communication has 2 aims depending on the audience.
